Title: Bye guys.

Quoting sources Japan’s  Defense Ministry, the newspaper Yomiuri Shimbun has reported that North Korea may hit Hawaii with a long-range ballistic missile around the 4th of July — the American Independence Day — as tensions continue to mount between the North Korea and the United States over the communist country’s  nuclear weapons program.

So yeah. WW3 is looming over the horizon.

North Korea isn't that stupid. While they maybe somewhat formidable, Kim Jon-il knows that if he tries anything, the global community will be on his ass in the form of hundreds of tons of TNT dropped on his regime. All in all, this is just a political pissing contest. You know, what the textbooks would call a Cold War.

The Cold War could have erupted in to a real war you know...

Missouri is awesome and will not be hit by this war, due to nobody giving a shit about Missouri.

Lots of people gave a shit about Missouri before the Civil War.

Could have, but it didn't. The closest point as to which war would have occurred during the Cold War was during the Cuban Missile Crisis. However, even when war seemed inevitable, the one concern that prevented either side from declaring war on the other was the mutual fear of needlessly destroying the world as they knew it in some petty conflict.

Through-out the Cold War between the United States and Soviet Russia, threats may have been thrown around here and there. However, the main point of it was for each side to prepare in case the other does something, as neither trusted the other.

A full-out war probably would have never happened, and the same will happen now. However, with different conditions. North Korea is essentially alone in their recent campaign of threats, and they're well aware that anything they do will result in complete erasure of their regime.

Why does the phrase "History repeats itself" come to mind now?

And even then, NK's (lol nintenkingdom) leader is, as you've said on this issue, "batshit crazy", so wouldn't there be a chance for him to actually go through with his claims and go ahead and declare war on us as well as launch the missiles?

Ikarou007 - July 2, 2009 05:40 AM (GMT)
I'm sure the US has prepared for such an assault, as unlikely as it may be. From my perspective, if North Korea does put some balls to their words, the result will be something similar to the Persian Gulf War.

Hmm... Probably yeah, but I get the feeling that it won't be that short a war.

And aren't we technically still in a state of war with North Korea?

Ikarou007 - July 2, 2009 05:44 PM (GMT)
Yeah, but at this point in time, any acts of aggression from their side will be near suicidal for their regime, which they should know quite well. If we somehow launch a preemptive strike against them, we'll only come out looking like the aggressors for escalating it to actual conflict, leaving the next several years to come spent absorbing the global backlash.

So in a nutshell, neither side has anything to gain, and nearly everything to lose from actual conflict.

I suppose all we can do now is wait and see.

I hope that this is all just bullshit being spewed from some insane commie's mouth, and that North Korea isn't really that crazy.

But now they don't, do they?
