Title: The Wii Will Come Out First Place This Gen.

Lionheartf815 - June 6, 2007 01:22 AM (GMT)
I'm not a nintendo fanboy, but the Wii appeals to more people then both the 360 and the Playstation 3, and is far cheaper then both. The Wii's innovative control scheme seems to be what people like, if you look at the sales figures. The Wii has sold bout 6 Million units, which is very close to the 360s 9 Million and a ways off from the Playstations 2 Million. Now once the real good games (Metroid, Mario, Pokemon etc.) comes out i think the Wii will far outsell the 360/Ps3 games by a large margin. I think all that Nintendo has to do is develop a strong online service with great games, and keep pumping them out, plus keep updating the Wii reguraly with new features, and it'll be the king of this generation. What do you guys think?

Ikarou007 - June 6, 2007 02:00 AM (GMT)
The only reason the Playstation 3 is not doing great as it should be is because it was released much too early. I'm not saying it's Sony's fault, as they were forced to release the Playstation 3 then with Microsoft's Xbox 360 getting an immense head start and Nintendo's Wii (lol) coming up on the horizon. Delaying it even further would have done nothing but further dug their own grave.

Once Blu-ray becomes more accessible, the Playstation 3's price will drastically go down. Game developing and manufacturing will be much easier and cheaper, encouraging third party games to be made at the level they were for the Playstation 2, as well making use of that hardcore (lolz) system powerz. Right now, the Playstation 3 is crap, however, in the near future, about 2-4 years or so, it will be a force Ninty and Microsoft have to watch out for.

As for the the Wii, Nintendo has yet to show it's big guns yet. The Wii has almost infinite possibilities, but making and utilizing those possibilities will take much more time than usual. So for now, the Wii has made a good start, but can only go further. Nintendo's trump card are their highly anticipated releases coming closer with each passing second, exciting anxious gamers. Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Metroid Prime 3 Corruption, Pokemon Battle Revolution, Super Mario Strikers Charged, and so on. And it's expected for all of these games to be released around the same time. Ninty those rich bastards. :P

LinkEX - June 20, 2007 05:15 AM (GMT)
I Agree with you 100% (Lionheart)

i couldn't have said it better myself

The marketing strategy of Nintendo putting out big releases not all at the same time, along with its way of getting the word out about the systems, games, etc. I think they will come out on top.

Like yourself I am not a Nintendo Fanboy, although I just plain like some Nintendo games better than others.

Im not saying the other systems will do a bad job, Just saying Nintendo will probably come on top

Well there is NO way to tell who will win, first of all the 360 is leading the pack ofcourse It's had a 2 year lead but It's doing quite impressive. A problem is that they break down.

The Wii rocks, It's very fun, but I think the 3rd party games controls are alittle weird and sometimes I think It's a gimmick at times. My brothers have a serious disease and ther eyes are about 3/4's blind I may get it too. The chances end around 16, but the fact that It's so hard to aim with the wiimote in Zelda make me sad because he has to back up for it to react and he can't see the aimer well.

And for the PS3 I have no idea where that's going I sorta aggree with Ikarou.

the 360 sales have been very low since the wii/ps3 came out, and that "gimmick" works, my parents actually play the wii and they like it alot so they got their own. I think nintendo's "gimmick" must be pretty damn good with sales like that, the wii is something new that appeals to a far larger audience then the 360/Ps3, hence the wii ill outsell them, and thats not even comparing price points.

Shooter55 - June 20, 2007 05:42 PM (GMT)
I don't think It's a gimmick when Nintedo does it, most of the 3rd party games i play aren't as good at the motion control as the 1st party games, but I guess we can just hope that it get's better 3rd party support then the gamecube even though that seems likely since Square announced about a week or 2 ago that It's far much easier to make games for the Wii then the 360/PS3. So we will see more support. I'm not going to say who will win but we will just have to see.

Hawk - June 20, 2007 09:02 PM (GMT)
The winner this gne will definitely be Wii or 360, since 360 got a headstart, but the way that the Wii is selling, it might just surpass it very soon.

It's still just a little too soon in this gen to tell just yet.

You have a very good point there. The Wii does appeal to a larger audience, gamers and non-gamers alike. However, you are still being a fanboy in a less drastic way. You need to look and mention the other system's pros and cons as well. So far, you've only actually talked abut the Wii, but there are two other systems!

The Wii is indeed catching up, as proof of this site. As you can see, Microsoft has 50% of profit, Nintendo 35%, and Sony 15%. Microsoft also has a trump card of their own. It's a little thing called 'Halo'. Halo's 3 official release is coming soon, and once it does, rabi Halo fanatics will fap to get it. Companies do not make profit from the actual systems sold. they make profit from the games. And considering Halo is one of the most anticipated games for gamers, it might even rival, or even surpass Brawl in sales, But only time will tell.

Back to that site I linked to, if the Wii's sales continue like that, getting a boost from the anticipated games coming out for it, it will most probably win, forcing Microsoft and Sony to get out their big guns.

Serious question: How long has Nintendo been making more money than the other consoles?

First tell me, the hell are you on? When this topic was actually active, the Wii was trailing the 360 by a small margin in sales. Ninty only surpassed Microsoft in sales sometime in August or September.

Nekolo - April 11, 2008 11:51 PM (GMT)
Its also winning because the japs hate the xbox360, something about nativism or sumthin or the fact that they hate first person shooters. Wii also wins because its cheapness and availability to all age groups makes it awesome. Even with just Wii sports the game is epicly fun. also lets face it PS3 will suck until the new final fantasy game comes out making it actually have a *PS3 only* game that actually owns.

Akorn - April 23, 2008 08:47 PM (GMT)
I have so much to say about this that a lot of what I say might be in the wrong paragraph etc.

The reason the Wii is in the lead, sales-wise is because it has first party games. This reason paired up with its cheap price are biggest reasons why the Wii sells like hotcakes.

Having first party games ties in with other reasons though. Nintendo is the biggest name of the 3 in terms of games. Obviously because the other 2 have never made games. Being the biggest name means people want it before they know anything about it. Of course, these poeple are called fanboys/girls but there are thousands of them in this world. That makes up a great proportion of of the Wii consumers.

Next, because other game developers know the Wii is so popular thanks to its first party games they get extra good games. Sometimes, you will hear a Sony or Microsoft fanboy say something along the lines of "Snuuurrp, snuuurrp, Nintendo need more third party support!". These people have no idea what they are talking about. They are just depressed that there console has no first party games.

Because the Xbox and the PS3 have no first party games, they are essentially the same consoles with minor differences. The Xbox has more exclusives now but soon the PS3 will catch up : the PS3 will have MGS4 instead of Bioshock, the PS3 will have Little Big Planet instead of Mass Effect and the PS3 will possibly have Final Fantasy XIII going ahead of the Xbox in terms of good exclusives (no, Halo is nothing remarkable, Call of Duty 4 already exists, and since they are both good shooters, yet ones which don't bring all that much to the genre it Halo 3 does not make a big difference in terms of good games, although it sells like the Wii).

Then you have the Wii's motion sensor which is essentially a big firework which goes with a tiny pop. Originally people went psycho for the Wii's motion sensor. It ended up contributing next to nothing to the gameplay experience of games. However, even now, casual gamers get attracted to the idea of a motion sensor.

Also, Nekolo: your last sentence must be a joke. Ever heard of Metal Gear Solid 4? Its in one of the only series of games in the world (possibly the only one apart from the Mother series) with a story you actually care about, as well as having incredibly good gameplay and being more likely to be the game of the year than Brawl or GTA IV or whatever you have to offer. I would also like to add that Final Fantasy is a completed overrated series. This next one will hopefully get back to its state of glory, like it used to be in Final Fantasy VI.

Wow, dude. Deep. Give 'im some rep for that, Dubloh. (You prolly are even though I don't say anything)

And on to my response:

I've gotta agree with you for the most part, however, a few things I have to say. Bioshock is NOT X360 exclusive. PC has it as well. Also, about Wii's motion sensor technology doing nothing. Ever heard of Zelda? How the heck do you play without the motion sensor in that? There's also No More Heroes, as well as Okami Wii that focus a lot on the motion sensor aspect of the Wii. I'd have to say that the motion sensor aspect of the Wii actually enhances gameplay for plenty of games. There will also be plenty in the future that will also rely on the Wii's motion sensor technology as well. I guess you've only played Brawl?

PS3 has a few first party exclusives as well, not none. The biggest being Ratchet and Clank. Developed by Sony, and will stay that way.

Yes, I do have to agree that part of the reason that sales skyrocket is because of fanboys/girls, but that cannot be helped. It's also not a legitimate excuse, since there are similar numbers of fanboys/girls for all three companies. A few hundred fanboys/girls makes no difference when something is selling millions to billions of copies around the world.

The price, of each, I have to agree with you to a certain extent. However, take hardware into consideration. The Wii's specs pale in comparison to that of the PS3, or even the X360. The fact that Wii runs DVDs instead of Blu-ray discs and HD-DVD discs also makes it obviously cheaper. The Wii's graphical aspect is only slightly better than that of the PS2, thus bringing the price even lower. Wii also runs on flash memory, not a hard drive, like that of the PS3 and X360, and the online functionality isn't that great, thus cutting the price even more.

About the Wii lacking 3rd party support? Sad to say, it's true. There's not much third party support for the Wii. Yes, people may be complaining because they don't have as much first party support as the Wii, but it makes no difference. They're stating the truth, and that's what it comes down to.

Also, MGS is the only game franchise that has a story that people care about? You must be joking. You must not play much games. Yes, Final Fantasy is highly overrated, but who's to say that MGS is not? It's all a matter of personal opinion. Select Final Fantasy games have amazing stories, 6 and 9 being two of many (Please don't even mention 7. That game had so many flaws, it's not even funny.) There's also the case of Zelda. Yes, each game is practically the same old "Princess gets abducted by evil mastermind that wants to take over the world. Hero goes on epic quest to save princess," but each game has its own uniqueness to it. Who's to say that MGS is not also the same old concept being recycled? Also, never underestimate the power of fans. Yes, I do believe that MGS should have a better chance at Game of the Year or whatever, but one can say the same about Final Fantasy, GTA, Mario Kart Wii, Okami, etc. Again, it's all a matter of personal opinion.

I probably missed a few points here and there as I typed this up, but whatever. Sue me.

Just my two cents.

Well, the Wii is in the lead because of it's accesability, active take on video games, and it's aswome (some) games. Brawl, MKWII, MP3, all are/look like great games. 360 has lots of great games, though most of them are T/M. PS3 just sucks right now...Bad games, bad console, though the could change in the new Final Fantasy game, though I thought Sony would go to the 360. I mean, why wouldn't they :notamused: ? The console wars have been made easier due to SEGA dropping out of the console department. Good call. I can play my favorite SEGA AND Nintendo games all on one console. Woot. Wii will come out First place. UNLESS, 360 comes out with some epic E games, or if the PS3 finally doesen't suck.
