Title: Look outside.
Double Oh Seven - October 18, 2007 11:08 PM (GMT)
I don't know about you guys, but over by me something weird is going on right now. Here is what happened. I went outside to get the mail, when I notice something peculiar. It is 6:00 (P.M) and it is nearly completely dark, you know, the dark you get during a storm, where the sun usually sets. The funny thing is, it gets dark around here at 7:00 this time of year. But thats not the weird part, I turn around and look at the sky, and where the sun usually rises in the morning, it was bright, bright as the morning. This confused me, for a brief second I thought that somehow the sun had risen twice for some reason, as if our orbit had been changed.
However, something of the massive scale surely would be noticeable...right? It is weird because, you have that feeling that it is supposed to be nightime, but you get the sensation as if the sun is actually rising. The sensation was almost like twilight, but more intense.
I later concluded that the cause of this weird phenomena was the fact that, in the west (sun set) there was a thick blanket of low clouds, blotting out the sun. In the east (sun rise) there were large high clouds, which were catching the rays of the sun, just as the moon does every night.
Seeing as how it was due to clouds, someone living on the east or west coast would have not seen it. But this leads me to my question.
What would happen if earths orbit were suddenly changed and the sun rose and set in different locations at different times? How would this affect our lives?
Remember, this is in serious discussion, no spam.

Oh hey, I think I saw that. I didn't really pay much mind to it, though.
But I don't think it would change our lives that much, assuming the rotation/orbiting speed stays the same.

It's all mental. Since your soo used to being tired and sleepy when it's getting dark and seeing something but darkness throws you off. You know you should be sleepy or awake but the lighting is the opposite.
Yep. It's all mental, Unless your obviously tired or hyper or something. :double:

Hm, it's kind of like that here in California. It's a SUPER windy day, and there's like 3 fires going on.
Anyway, if the orbit was suddenly thrown wayward, then as long as we don't get any closer to the sun, I don't think it would affect us at all. It would certainly change the night and day, but other than that, no.

Ha, I look outside, all I see is fog-- Oh wait, that's smoke. TT_TT
In about an hour I'm probably going to evacuate.
