Title: Pokemon: Why so hated?

S.R.P. - December 21, 2007 02:44 AM (GMT)
I mean, there's nothing wrong with it. Why do people insult it?

If you even say you play it at school, the next minute, everyone's calling you a nerd, gay, and they all stay away from you. Why?

Is there a reason as to why they make fun of you when you say you like it? I'd like to hear one fucking good reason as to why you would make fun of it? Is it the Anime with the dumb commercials? Or is it just what they see when flipping the channels, snips of the episodes, or commercials that just want to make you say, "What idiot would ever play that?"

Or maybe the little critters. Like Jugglypuff, or Pikachu, or Clefairy, or something else that just looks like girls would play it. But have they seen the possibilities that they have for total strategy teams. People do use them. But normally not because they like them. And then there are the ones who just catch attention and they can't get out of your mind, and most of the time, they're the ones who are retarded. (Magikarp and some.)

And I agree. The Anime is retarded, and so are the commercials. And maybe a few of the girlier characters. But that's no reason for dumping on someone for liking something. This is a free world. No one can tell you how to think. Pokemon is a good strategy game.

And let me ask you something else, why does no one make fun of you if you like Legend of Zelda? Or Final Fantasy? Or Mario? Why the hell do they pick on Pokemon? I'm asking for one really good reason as to why you would make fun of it? Why is it such a Taboo in public society? Just.. why?

I'm serious. I hate the fact that people would just completely alienate you from societies for stating that you like something. I seriously want to know why the hell "normal" people hate it so much. And by normal, I mean the people who have a "life." Not "normal," the people who are on fan sites and forums.

I'm looking for one fucking good answer. Someone mind telling me?

I think it has to do with people only watching the anime and not playing the game or reading the manga, or maybe it makes them feel better about themselves

Phantom - December 21, 2007 03:07 AM (GMT)
I guess some people think it's childish.

As for paragraph 6, no one makes fun of you for that because they're popular.

mew-too - December 21, 2007 03:12 AM (GMT)
Nice post, SRP.
You know why I think? It's because everyone played it as a kid, and then most people stopped. They look back on it as a memory of being a child, and symbolize pokemon with being a child. Even though, deep down, the people that give Pokemon shit still remember the good times they had with it, but they keep it inside. So they look at you, a teen or an adult, being a child. Acting like a child. hey result to picking on you.

Wolf-RS - December 21, 2007 03:13 AM (GMT)
People think the cartoon was childish so they don't give the manga and games a chance.......they just call it gay

I think it's this. But I still see no reason for making fun of you because you havn't grown up. And if you havn't moved on to South Park, or some other retarded adult show (sorry people who watch this.) there is still no reason to just completely attack someone and take away their social life.

If liking Pokemon makes me a child, then by all means, I'm about as mature as a 1 year-old.

The Japanese version of Pokemon had blood... (The dirt patches in the dub were censored, they were originally cuts and scrapes)

People just don't think anything's good nowadays. Basically, a lot of people think games, such as Pokemon, are childish, as everyone else said. Also, they believe that games nowadays are about guns, running over people, hookers, and the like *Note: GTA*

They just don't care much about Pokemon. It's shunned because "OMG GRAFIX ARE BAHD LOL PLEY REEL GEYMEZ NUB!!!" or "OMFG J00 ARE NERD HOO PLEYZ GEYMEZ! PLEY A REEL GEYME! SPORTZ RULZ LOL" are the types of people that most run into.

If you look at the big picture, though, LOTS of people around the world still play Pokemon to this day. Also, some people don't like games that have replay value. They think the game's over when you beat it once, so they tend to go for the games that are "better". *I know someone like this*

Basically, its all up to the preference of everyone. Oh, one more thing before I end this post... Others just think that games that EVERYONE plays is just crap. I know plenty of people who hate games that everyone knows about/plays. They go for the lesser-known games.

Overall, Pokemon isn't shunned in every single society. Possibly its only your society, but there are many other areas that Pokemon is practically worshiped and such.

Edit: Ah, almost forgot about the fanboys. Yes. Fanboys do make a difference, believe it or not. Pokemon, being a Nintendo franchise, is shunned by Sony and Microsoft fanboys. They believe their games are just *insert really big number here* times better, and are biased, as well as being psychologically blind.

I guess some people think it's childish.

That's pretty much reason numero uno.

As much as I want to bitch about the topic like you, I'll try not to, but with not guarantees.

Even though nearly everyone played Pokemon, an equal majority outgrown it, as the years past. The franchise was starting to get milked, and pretty damn noticeable. The movies, anime, and even the games that started the fad, were becoming massively repetitive, along side with the fact that the very kids who helped the franchise become the massive legacy it is known as today, were outgrowing it, and moving on to newer stuff.

However, quite a few people still stuck with Pokemon. Maybe not as loyal or obsessive when the fad was the hottest thing on the streets, but still paid enough interest to keep money flowing into Nintendo's big ass wallet of money. They, or should I say, we, still kept on playing the games, and because of us doing so, we are part of the minority.

A little psychological 101. When people are with a lot of people in agreement with a certain topic, said people become drunk to their asses with power. And who is the victim? The smaller group of people, who don't share opinions with bigger people, so bigger people pick on smaller people. So what do the smaller people get? A lot of shit to bitch about on forums.

As much as the next gamer, if it's one thing I hate, it's people who are at every single freaking corner telling me what, and what not, to play. So far, Halo is taking the number one spot, which explains to as to why I hate the damn series contrary to other people. There isn't a single time I remember when I don't hear someone say "Damn dude, you still play Pokemon? Go check out Gears of War. Tat's the shizz, way better than any Pokemon".

Okay, okay, nothing bad to the extent to that which is implied happened to me anytime recently. Although, in middle school, it was horrible. But it's completely different in High School. Even if you openly play Diamond during Lunch, no one will pick on you, or even crack an offending joke or anything. Huge difference, it's crazy.

Try thinking at a Middle School level. Everyone gives you shit about liking it. EVERYONE. It's all about Cars, Guns, Violence, Blood, and War now. What happened to the good old days, I mean about Kindergarden/First Grade, when everyone liked Pokemon, and it was all nice and calm in households with children. Now when you walk into someone's house, the TVs are all filled with screens of bloodied people, death, cars running over something, or a battlefield. (When you're playing Video Games I mean.)

Those basically go back to paragraphs two and three in my post. Middle schoolers are incredibly immature and biased. They just believe that blood is the "cool" thing and play games full of blood and gore, guns and hookers, cars and the like. They just try to rid themselves of their past. That's what I think at least. Middle schoolers try to be more mature, and believe that playing an M-rated game makes them more mature than playing an E-rated game. They don't understand that it makes them seem less mature the more biased they become.

Wow. Societies vary by one year or three. Madness in the schools. I agree with the thing you said above, "When people are with a lot of people in agreement with a certain topic, said people become drunk to their asses with power. And who is the victim? The smaller group of people, who don't share opinions with bigger people, so bigger people pick on smaller people." I agree to that 100%. But is it about power? No. It's just that people care too much about popularity in Middle School. It's really retarded, and I'm glad I'm going to High School in 2 more years. But I mean really, does the mentality of people really change that drastically in two/one year[s]?

This just shows how great our teachers are doing to protect our freedom of speech.

"Power" comes in the forms of assertiveness, self-esteem, and a minor or major role of popularity. It goes into the roots of bullying, where one person, in order to feel superior due to animal instinct, make examples of their aggressive behavior to set an example to those who they feel inferior to them.

And the easiest way to do that? Side with the larger group of people, and attack the minority for massive damage.

The mentality basically changes because when you reach High School, you reminisce the past. You begin to remember the good times, back when you were just a small kid, and think of those times. That's the case with me at least. They don't mock you, because they remember that they used to play a game similar to that of what you are playing, so they don't care much.

Don't forget sex. >_< Sex is popular too. Someone says that they got laid already. I won't go into details, but South Park is REALLY filling their heads with fucking stupid ideas.

I just can't believe that I'm gonna be stereotyped later on along with the rest of those bastards.

Oh, check this out. I say that I have a 360. Someone else asks if I have/play Halo 3. I say no. And they start dissing me about how I havn't lived, or whatever. And then I say that I can't ****ing afford it. And the continue on like I hadn't said anything.

What has society come too in Middle Schools?

They think 360 is all about Halo 3, the most overrated, over hyped game ever.

I think we're getting off topic here... sorry. But I guess you could use that chart for D/P.

D/P was WAAAAAAAAAAY too over-hyped. I even got it a month or two before release by importing, and it wasn't as great it was supposed too be. But it was still fun. I guess Pokemon's already had it's 15 minutes of fame. And what a 15 minutes it was.

It's repetetive. I don't care how many thousands of pokemon they add: Mewtwo is still the ultimate Pokemon in my eyes. Screw Arceus,Darkrai,Mudkip,Magikarp,Ho-oh,Lugia, and Agumon...errr...Yeah that's right. I said Agumon. :double:

this is pokemon Fierce Deity... not digimon... now go take your pikachu and leave.

the pokes are the best. Though Diamond and pearl ruined it for me, 4th gen pokes are so dumb... Ive liked pokemon since i was 5 and i plan on liking it for a while still. the last few days i have been playing XD gale of darkness which is good.

They should make a teen version of the game and stop focusing it around children. Pokemon Colosseum was, in my eyes, the most adult of the games, it was good.

gold and silver were THE BEST of the games. Second gen pokes rule. Go tyranitar ^^

They ran out of ideas and also started focusing more around a younger crowd. That's why you only see really little kids watch the newer show anymore.

Nick - December 29, 2007 11:34 AM (GMT)
Anime made Pokemon childish in the eyes of teenagers, the commercials, movies, plus dolls etc make it look kiddy. The 3rd gen was horrible and destroyed it.

Btw is Middle school where 12, 13 and 14 years old go?

Nekolo - December 29, 2007 07:07 PM (GMT)
yes yes yes 3rd gen was a big disappointment compared to 2nd gen, but 4th gen sucked balls compared to 3rd. middle school is 6th grade - 8th grade. I know its a little bit off topic but i was reading in another post that a sequel to pokemon snap would be awesome, and it would be.

Divette - December 30, 2007 02:13 AM (GMT)
There really should be one. That would be cool.
