Title: Good and Evil
Description: Universal or Not?

_Changed_Daily_ - February 26, 2008 12:21 AM (GMT)
You may be confused. This is a discussion on good and evil, about whether it is universal, or not (hence the poll that is there). Some consider it to be universal, and that certain things are "good," and other are "bad." And others think that it all depends on the circumstances and other things. One argument that is common, is the argument about a starving boy, who steals a loaf of bread to keep himslef alive. Some would say it's evil, or "bad," because stealing is automatically bad. Others would say that it is not "bad," just because it is stealing, because he did it to save his life. Now, what is your take on this age-old argument? Discuss it.

Er, "no," is ment to be "not." Well, it really doesn't matter, I guess.

First of all, Double post. Edit your posts next time.

Anyway, everything really depends on the matter at hand. Especially something like this. If you rob something for the sake of robbing it, then that's just wrong. If you take it to save someone's life, that's a different story. It may be "evil" as you put it, but it has a justified reason.

I think everything has a purpose, good or not. Wether it be helping yourself or someone you know, or purely out of greed. So I say no, not universal.

Depends on the circumstances like that boy robbing bread is for his well being, he has the right to live.

In my opinion, I do not think that it is universal. It depends on the circumstances at hand. Because it is those circumstances and only those circumstances that make up if its evil or not. Like if you kill somebody in self-defense because your life was threatened, I don't think that is evil, but if you kill just for the sake of killing, then your evil, and you end up with a needle in your arm and a lethal injection waiting for you.

MEGA BUMP!!

My side...If it was to save his life then it wasn't evil(bad), but if he just took it for the heck of it cause he was hungry at the time instead of starving for a week or a few days, that would be just wrong and that would be evil(bad). And it is not really a good thing either, if he had to steal something to eat he probably could have talked to someone about it to see if he could get something to eat for the day.
