Title: "Team Spirit"
once in a blue mew - April 3, 2008 11:34 PM (GMT)
So like, we all know 'team spirit' is where people are cheering for a team they really like, like some people just adore their high school team (not always though. ;) and go to all their games. But then, what happens when the really hard core fans go a little bit out of line? Maybe flip off the ref. when they give a "bad judgment" or something that hurts the team. Or maybe they refuse to admit their precious team lost.
Or in some cases, just totally go over to the other side and just start an all out melee between one team and another. In other cases, there's full blown riots in cities. (I can't remember when or where, but this has happened on occasion.)
Then there's 'team spirit' off the bleachers and field. Yeah, I'm talking about the locker room and schools and work. In the locker rooms, it usually goes, "holy crap, u sukd in teh gaem, kthnx." and then, "omg i h8 u *punches*" and then they fight. It's usually because of tension or they're violent people.
At school, the mood in the air really changes with the outcome of a game (in some cases, again.) like, if they win, everyone's a little lighter and stuff. If they lose, it's just really slow and they're all droopy.
At work, I can't really say, but sometimes adults and stuff will make small bets on sports, and so they sort of have a different atmosphere around the people. But then again, when does team spirit cross the line? It could be different for some people, but fighting over a silly game is really just... bleh. It's stupid, and that's what it is. I can't really tell you why exactly sports are so worshiped in this modern era, but what I can say is, "It's really just a game, and nothing more really."
When's team spirit cross the line between "Oh, that's just harmless" to "OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT HAPPENED!"
Discuss.

Team spirit is a productive thing on the field but rarely does anyone care to keep it respectful, and so it generates problems.
There's nothing wrong with team spirit. It's the person's respect for themselves and those around them that's wrong.

I think it's just wrong to cause a whole riot and destroy a town because someone lost a game. If I did that every time I lost an SSBB Match, the whole world would be in ruin.

There is a difference between Team Spirit and being an obsessed fagot. A little team spirit can be a good thing because at least a little devotion to your own peeps.

Ok, yeah, It's ok to cheer, but when it goes out of hand in the locker room when they get beat, like someone blames it all on someone, and then the other guys (or girls. >.<) start ganging up on the person because they "agree" then it's wrong.

That's from pure lack of respect, not team spirit.

People would still say it's "team spirit" but gone wrong. Notice the quotes around the phrase, as that usually implies it's something it's not.

Team Spirit is just a medium through which they channel their hate.
People blame 9/11 on religion, but the truth is, had they not had religion, they still would have done the same dang thing.
People feel the need to justify themselves by doing it in the name of something.

Team Spirit is usually good when your country is playing in something like the World Cup in soccer. You do want to show your pride dont you?

There is a difference between Team Spirit and being obsessive. Team Spirit is cheering for you team and keeping your sanity if you lose. Obsessive is when you attack a country because they spurned your country in some way.
