Title: Photoshop & Gimp
Description: Compare time!

I need some good info. And I know many think GIMP is better when others like Photoshop. But I'd like to hear the difference between the two (pros, cons, etc.) and all the general stuff. Which one is better at signature & wallpaper making?

Photoshop is better. I'm a gimper and even I admit it. But, you can do most of the stuff you can do in photoshop with gimp. If you want a good example of someone who is absolutely amazing at gimp go to gimptalk.com and look at curlyhairedboy.
As for your question, either one is fine if you know how to use them. You can make something crappy with both.
It's not the program that makes a sigger good, it's skill.

Come to think of it, I never went to a place like that.
And hearing that makes Photoshop sound like an even larger utility for art then GIMP is.

That's because it is xD. Gimp is just a free gfx program for those who can't afford photoshop (or to lazy to bittorent it.) But gimp is still great. I mean you can still make amazing sigs with it, wallpapers, and vectors.

Photoshop has more professional features and it is better for a more advanced graphic artist. GIMP is much simpler and updates with new features often.
You should use GIMP.

Only if you can't get photoshop through legit means or the "other way". I'd get photoshop too if it wasn't for the fact that my dad uses my computer often so he might notice I have photoshop through illegal means.

My parent's do not care on what I download. Unless it contains a virus. But I have had PS via Limewire countless times but never understood how to use it. That's why most people tell me to play around with it to learn.

I use linux. Photoshop isn't compatible with Linux. (unless I download Wine, which I don't want to do. It's still in an unworkable beta.) I like Photoshop, and I know how to use it, but I have to use GIMP. So, because I use GIMP, I'm not an advanced graphics artist?
P.S: GIMP can do anything Photoshop can do, only it's free. I'd suggest going for GIMP. It's much less of a hassle. Also, try some online manuals, and consult GIMPtalk, as DD stated. I hope I helped.

It honestly can not do EVERYTHING Photoshop can do.
malesretmit12 - July 8, 2008 04:49 AM (GMT)
It pretty much can, with the right scripts and plugins.
Mike Brunestud - July 8, 2008 12:23 PM (GMT)
I see. Thanks for the heads-up Males! Perfect explanation.
