Title: Poll of the Day Posting Suggestion
Homes - July 10, 2008 02:08 AM (GMT)
I don't understand why people post in said topics with solely what the voted for in the poll, word for word. The poll is there for a reason, so people can see the general results without a multitude of posts that don't contain any substance. To me, it seems people do this just to up their post count. I'd suggest when you post what you voted for, you give reasons why and start up a discussion or debate. Its true that not all polls will be able to garner a ton of discussion (today's "where do you get your news?" a prime example), though it would be nice to see some attempts anyway.
I'm not saying it should be an absolute rule. Just a suggestion I thought I'd throw out there. It'll make for the board to be much less dull.

how would it make the board less dull? i actually like reading the comments people post because sometimes they give out reasons that surprise me or parallel my own

Did you even read what I wrote or is it not clear? I said when posting a reply in on the poll board, put some substance into your post. If you're voting in today's "Where do you get your news" poll and are voting "Internet" and are simply going to post "Internet," why post at all? Your vote was already tallied. At least when you post say "The Internet, because I don't get the newspaper at my house." All the poll topics seem pretty dull due to people simply posting their vote to up their post count in an attempt to become that much more popular by having a master chief picture by their name.
The point of this was that dull, empty, three word posts = bad. Posts with substance = good.

I agree with the notion of more meat in our posts. Don't think the POTD would be the first place to implement this, but it's better than nothing.
I spend quite a bit of time thinking up the polls.

Yeah, ithappens everywhere, though that's where I noticed it the most.

Good idea Homes. That should get more discussion going in the poll of the day at least

I don't think it matters in the POTD, but elsewhere yes.
