Title: Oblivion: The Shivering Isles
Locke99 - July 16, 2008 05:13 AM (GMT)
Has anyone beaten the Shivering Isles yet? I've been spending quite a lot of time the past couple of days, and I finally beat it. I really enjoyed it.

I don't really see what the big deal is about Oblivion games. They're mediocre, I'd say. What's the appeal?

To me, it's just the amazing amount of things you can do. There is a pretty much UNLIMITED amount to the things you can do. Mages Guild, Thieves Guild, Fighters Guild, Assassins Guild, searching Ayelid ruins, caves, getting LOOT from these places, and of course there are a ton of side quests including quests from random strangers, daedric shrines, or even people in shops. You can go around stealing things from people, and sell those things to fences in the Thieves guild. You can bet on matches in the arena, or even COMPETE in the arena.
As I said, there is SO much you can do in this game. And of course, with the Shivering Isles, it makes much more open to you.

I didn't get Shivering Isles but yeah I gotta admit, the game is really good.
I mean it's so addicting I found myself playing 5 hours at a time, just admiring the large landscape the game has is fun.

Shivering Isles is worth it. Trust me.
This is definitely one of these games that you find yourself going onto check on something, and then you run into something else which makes you want to play so much more.
Angaheim - July 16, 2008 09:05 PM (GMT)
Greatest Expansion Ever, imo.
Nekolo - July 16, 2008 09:50 PM (GMT)

After hearing your explanation, Locke, I'd say it sounds pretty fun. I'll have to try it out. I'll rent it.

Oh, I dunno, maybe the fact you can play however you want?
1. You decide how your character looks (you get a highly detailed facial reconstruction tool when you start).
2. You decide how they fight (by customizing your own character class)
3. You decide if you want to follow just the storyline quests or if you want to do only the optional ones. Or you can do all of them. Or none of them at all.
4. You can spend your time any way you want. You an buy your own house and furnish it any way you want. You an buy SEVERAL houses in several towns if you want. You can travel the Oblivion map just collecting items, or just fight any random enemy you want without any point or goal. You can raid strongholds, or you can stick to walking around towns and socializing with NPCs. Gamble on fights in the Arena or take part in the fights yourself. You can go to bard and get drunk off your ass. You can do virtually anything you want. not even MMORPGs like World of Warcraft offer the level of freedom Oblivion offers.
4. You can choose to play in the all too common 3rd person view, or play a sowrdfighting game in a 1st Person Shooter-style. The only other 1st Person swordfighting game I know of is Maken X. The engine just doesn't work for swordfighting, but Oblivion makes it work great.
5. Pardon my language, but the scenery is just fucking INCREDIBLE.

All of this is very true. Especially the part about WoW :D

i just wish you could do co-op with a friend, I mean, imagine how fun that would be if you could do all of those things and more with a friend.
Pillage villages, go on a murder spree, dash through the forests, jump down the mountains, explore the various dungeons, all with a friend.
i would like that
malesretmit12 - July 17, 2008 06:07 AM (GMT)
It's nice being the Madgod. I always call the for entertainment. The lady dances as if she's drunk. :ecksdee:
I have to admit, this is the only M-rated (and non-Nintendo) game I like. The level of content here is very good. I love turning Mudcrabs into Trolls with the Wabbajak. :custom2:

Now that I think about it, that would be really awesome. That would be REALLY fun. I can just imagine 2 friends chasing from a whole legion of guards after a total massacre.
@ Males: Yeah, the dancer is pretty funny. The only thing that was actually worth becoming the Madgod though, were the spells, IMO. But the spells are really good ones.

Haha Oblivion is awesome, I'm addicted. I got like all the achievements in 2 weeks xD. Is Shivering Isles worth it?
Double Oh Seven - July 31, 2008 01:52 AM (GMT)
This has nothing to do with Shivering Isles directly I believe but I think that anyone who has dominated the Arena in Oblivion can appreciate this video:
