Title: 1% Milk
Description: My painfull story.

Double Oh Seven - September 23, 2008 12:50 AM (GMT)
With the recent return to schooling, I have been happily consuming my daily lunch. If by happy you mean forcing yourself to eat it and swallow, then yes, quite happily I was. The highlight of my lunch is the delicious chocolate milk, ah yes, not even the horrible school lunches can screw that one up, right?

Wrong. Upon returning to my humble teachings and its lacking lunches, I noticed something extremely wrong. In the past, students were able to choose from three milk types. 2% Chocolate (brown carton), 2% White (white carton), or 1% Skim milk (green carton). I happily drank as much chocolate milk as I so dared. However, this year something was different.

They switched milks on me. I was standing in line, getting ready to grab my tasty friend, when I noticed something odd. There were still three milk carton colors, however they were different somehow.. Two of the colors had remained the same, the white and the green cartons. However, there was something amiss. I said to myself "Hm, looks like they have orange juice now, wheres my chocolate love?" Out of curiosity I grabbed the orange carton and read.

And in big mocking letters:
"1% Low Fat Chocolate Milk. ;D " (Smilie not actually on carton, but it might as well have been.)

They had done it, they had finally done it. I knew they might someday, but not in my era, no. No way they could take from me which I hold so dearly, my tasty whole Chocolate Milk.

I decided, compared to my other options this was still my best bet. So I drank. And I drank, and I drank, until no more delicious milk remained. But at that point I remained confused, I mean...isn't low fat milk supposed to taste bad, like diet soda?

I still enjoy my chocolate milk, low fat though it may be, though I still wonder, how could they seriously do this? Yeah yeah, America is fat says the media, we eat too much says the media, but I'm not. I should have the option to choose my milk in all its fattening glory. After all, I have a fast metabolism, I need all the help I can get.

Well thats just my little long story about my milk. Which brings me to my question for you guys. A few questions, actually.

What kind of milk is available at your school, work, etc. and what do you drink? Do you think schools should be able to take away your choices on what you can consume, after all, you are paying the school, be it in lunch checks or in tax dollars. You should get what you want right?

Lets hear your opinion, and remember, this is the serious sofa guys, lets keep it tasteful. ::):

I never knew school lunch was serious business.

Over here in my school, they try their best to deliver the most variety they can with choices. From the main course of the day, to pasta, salad, or deli sandwiches. I just skimmed the surface, there. However, it becomes incredibly limited when it's time to choose the drink.

A full lunch here is about $2.45. Meaning you can probably get the main course, pasta, and a drink for that price. As for the drink, the only drinks that coincide with that tradition are the three choices of milk, similar to you, however we still have the 2% Chocolate Milk (>:3). That's basically it. They have an array of other selections to choose from. Snapple, Swiss Tea, Nesquick Milk, only to name a few. However, we're only limited to those rather small milk cartons, since anything else would be charged individually.

That's the only complaint I have. Overall, I couldn't care less really. Hell, the cafeteria can barely feed the people who buy lunch each day. Choice isn't much of the matter, here. After all, to buy lunch is a choice in itself, and the possibility to a few that it's the only alternative to starving is entirely situational.

Man that sucks. :(

At least you even get chocolate milk. I'm homeschooled. No chocolate milk for me.

Not even strawberry milk! ;~;

More like a narrative on how he discovered efforts for making said milk healthy.

Actually dubloh, the chocolate milk at school is fat free. They changed it from last year because apparently we are all fat slobs and we cant handle 20 more calories in a carton of milk.

I personally hate milk, but i love choc milk. maybe it's becuase i really never did drink milk in my life because when i was young i was allergic to it, until about 4th grade when i had my first choc milk and I basically forced my body to outgrow it.

Yay ice cream.

Well Turns out i can choose from not only milk but from other choices (SUCKERS). But the lunches are synthasized crap, well I just tell everyone it's all fake food except fro the second floor. You have your besic choice on first and third floor. Pizza. Yes this is our main choice its there everyday. First time you will get sick of it. So anyway, they have two other choices picked probably at random and stick them on a lunch menu that no one has. So its get what you think you want if you thouch it you take it. SWEET...Hell no

Second floor. Is probably the best. I cant say its a subway but its the closest thing we can get to it. So we decided to put in a deli when i first came to the shcool. Cool right? I mean al the possibilities. But it stands as chooce a meat veggies and cheese. Tuesdays and thursdays they have meat ball subs which I had for the first time last week. Not so bad actually. So I think thats the best at our school. But on the second and third floor they also provide us with little stand. Some snacks like chips "homeade things" bagels and pretzils. They also have the same variety of drinks in the lines. I'll get into that soon.

The first floor is complied of a lunch line and ...wait whats this...a school store! but theres two one for shirts and such and one for food. Thats actually food. AMAZING.Every day is something different. They also serve 3 kinds of pretzils Cheese Jhalapano and regular (sometimes they switch Jhalopano for pizza but the pizza ones suck) and pizza's for one.

Onto our drinks. For our choices we have chocolate milk, coffee mlik, skin milk 2% milk 1% milk gatorade bottles water bottles flavored water minute maid lemonade and other flavoress of it.

But for the milks. Chocolate and coffee as far as I can remember have been 1%. Personally I drink the coffee...everyday screw chocolate I have it at home(sorry Dubloh)! But not only 1% milk but fat free as pointed out. But our cartons are brown light brown green red and yellow. At home i drink skim milk and im starting to taste the different from what I call coffee milk in school. Not the point.

In the school store they have those and more. They have enlarged milk cartons but like those plastic bottles in Dunkin Donuts, sparkling fruit juice... I dont really know Izze I think its called its asweome in various flavors, fuze more water adn slushies!!! OH yes slushies rock

So I think out of everything in my shcool lunch. The drinks are the best part of the mean

food 2/10 drinks 8/10

This is why I go off campus for lunch. We have a Terriyaki place, Taco Bell, a more authentic mexican place, a pizza place, and Burger King all within walking distance. If you drive there's a KFC, McDonald's, Wendy's, a local burger joint, Panda Express, Jack in the Box, and a ton of other places I can't think of right now. I haven't gotten school lunch since freshman year.

I personally, have the best lunch drink selection at school. A variation of Diet Pepsi, Coke, [Diet] Dr. Pepper, [Diet] Cherry 7up. And of course, anything my heart desires for the actual food. How the hell is this possible, you may ask. Simple, really. "I fucking bring my own lunch."

Screw the cafeteria and their ghey synthetic shit, I have the real deal all within my plastic bag of random stores. I believe on time I actually took my lunch in a Dillard's bag. Was I laughed at? Hell yes. Did I care? No. Was it good? Yes.

Point is, if you can have the guts to wake up early in the morning and make yourself something for lunch, or you have a slave-like mom that does it all for you, abuse the hell out of it and take your own lunch.

Yeah, I go off to.

Dominoes, A Portuguese Restaurant, Quiznos, and Burger King are all nearby.

There are more, but I can't remember them at the moment, but yeah, taking fat off Chocolate milk is NOT GOOD.

I tasted one at a Quickcheck near the school to find out it tasted a bit flavorless, Looked a bit more and there it was.

Napoleon Dynamite: "I see you're drinking 1%. Is that because you think your fat?"

There's no difference between 1%, 2% and whole. It's all the same cow-tit milk. The Government doesn't want you to know it.

Take it from a man that works on a dairy: You're wrong.
